About the Book

What Healing Means to Me: A Primer serves as a guide to enable the reader to understand in a broad outline Dr. Alexander Augoustides’s perspective on why balance and an active physician-patient relationship is integral to healing on any and all levels. His signature program Balance Rx© is the backbone on which this work has been developed and also serves as the framework that forms the foundation of what he and his staff do daily at Piedmont Integrative Medicine. This program uses seven keys that each constitute an important segment of the whole, and each segment has at least seven sections. Each of these segments and sections are considered and addressed by each individual. Dr. A lovingly challenges his reader with three foundational questions throughout the book. The purpose of asking these questions is to discover an outline and structure with answers that are both specific and definite. In a more specific sense, the three questions enable the reader to bring and define their why into being, outline the framework of the what, and ultimately show you the way forward. Through the thousands of patients Dr. A has had the privilege of working with, he has discovered that this Socratic approach just works.

About the Author

Alexander T. Augoustides, MD, ABIHM, FAAFP or simply “Dr. A” has been in private practice since 1993, and has a solid background in Family Medicine with a special interest in Holistic Integrative Medicine. Dr. A earned his medical degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and completed his residency at Marshall University School Of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia, where he served as Chief Resident. Following this, he completed a family practice teaching fellowship program at ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee. A practicing physician, Dr. Augoustides has continued the legacy of his clinic, Piedmont Integrative Medicine, PA, which was established in 1984 under the leadership of Dr. Walter A. Ward. Dr. A took over stewardship of the clinic in 2004. Over the last 20 years, he has journeyed both personally and professionally in balancing the health of his patients. This has been the foundation for the Balance Rx© program at Piedmont Integrative Medicine, PA. Outside of the practice, Dr. A enjoys photography in Reynolda Gardens, swimming and ocean kayaking, soaking up the sun on any NC beach, and attending church with his family. When asked what his life mantra is he usually replies, “I simply to go with the flow.”
