A meditiaton:
Then the river spoke to me. I heard the words,” Which would you rather have, people or me?”
I asked, “What do you mean?”.
The river said, “Think about what people want.”
And I asked, “What do you want?”.
And the river said,” To flow.”
And I asked, “No expectations of me?”.
And the river said, “No, just to flow.”.
I found I could meditate just about anywhere. The trips to the Pine Barrens were among the most healing journeys I ever made. We would spend three days kayaking down the Mullica river and sleep on the soft sandy banks. I loved to create a small space for our outdoor kitchen where we could prepare food near our campfire. Sometimes at night we could hear coyotes howling while we tried to recognize constellations in the clear skies filled with stars.
I am listening to a shamanic drumming meditation. This meditation takes me to middle earth, where it is made known to me once again that I am more comfortable around animals than people. I am with my totem, who I named Bohpu, a huge bull elephant with tusks. I am on his back, which smells like hay and has spiky hairs. His skin is coarse and wrinkled. I see how he was formed as my totem. I see my child’s self with gray clay. I am forming Bohpu. Slowly I form his legs, his body, his ears and tail and then his trunk and tusks. Creator God breathes life into him and he trumpets joyfully and triumphantly. He is created to care for me, to take me to designated places on his back, safely through middle earth, like the healing Blue pond of the fairies. Sometimes he lets me get off his back to go into the water and other times he takes me into the water and we play together.
