About the Author

Author Karla Hansen holds a BS in Education from Iowa State University and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Iowa. As a licensed mental health therapist, the transformative message of The Shimmering Secret reflects her work with individuals and families. She has found that, when the link between thought and emotion is examined, people begin to understand and feel the impact of their own thinking in creating their experience of life.

Karla’s previous child-centered projects include video production of I Love My Child...but I need Help for the Family Support Network in Missouri and Silent Screams, a documentary featured in the New York City Peace Film Festival, spotlighting the impact of war on children living in combat zones around the globe. She served on the board of the Iowa Peacemakers Monument, a nonprofit organization instrumental in restoring the Peace Garden in downtown Des Moines, Iowa.

A dainty porcelain bowl, purchased for a nickel when the author was ten, inspired this enchanting tale. From the mysterious golden script on the underside of the lid emerged a captivating message to lead youngsters of all ages to the simple truth that everyone, including bullies, has the secret to happiness inside themselves.
