(1909) If you do dream, and I believe we all do, then you too have wondered about a dream and the mystery of its origin, makeup, and purpose. Internally inconsistent and disordered, dreams, oftentimes, enter and leave the life of the dreamer, meaningless. How should we consider our dreams? Are they all simply electrical activity in the brain, or, was it something you ate? Should we seek to understand them as a form of prophecy, a sort of heavenly posts, or should we disregard them due to our inability to understand them? What is a dream? In order to gain some perspective on the phenomenon of dreams, and to properly understand their purpose in this world, we must first delve (briefly) into the inner dimensions of dreams. GENESIS OF DREAMS In the beginning, we understand that everything emanates from one supreme creative force, Elohim (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3). There is no single substance existing in the universe, whether it is that which we experience through the senses, or that which we perceive through the mind, and that, which is unknown, which did not exist first in our Creator. No matter what is out there in our vast universe, it did not come into existence without the Creator. The beginning of all reality takes place first in the heavens, gradually descending into this world (whether through divine will, faith, hope, love), and is govern by Almighty God. Dreams are a branch of this divine order.

These are images and words in the night. “In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, while slumbering on their beds, when he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction” (Job 33:15–16 NKJV). Until you get to the place where you have extracted certain behaviors from your system, one needs God to have something to put in your face. Many times, God has to go outside of our spiritual capacity and connect us to something psychologically or scare us with some kind of threat in order to keep us until we can walk as he wants us to walk. He uses consequences and deterrents that catch us quickly. They catch you on the way so you don’t get too deep into something that is going to take half of your mind to get out of it. “You don’t want to go to the edge of your mind to change your mind in order to do a different behavior” (Noel Jones). Within the context of this reference, those catalysts, consequences, and deterrents are your dreams.
