I saw my tree, it had four great big red apples on it. There had never been any fruit on it before. When I took an apple from the tree a bug had eaten half of it. There was someone with me sharing my find. At first I was shocked to see my apple half eaten but that was insignificant to the magic of the tree producing fruit. My interpretation: Maybe I am producing or creating the fruit and what I am creating is not perfect. What is important is the creation, the act of creating, growing, being a part of and living life. The imperfections or darkness are a part of life. The lessons we learn from the darkness we cannot learn any other way. It is only through facing the darkness that we can learn not to be afraid. Nothing outside of me can hurt me. Only the fear within me can hurt me. It isn’t so much what has happened to me, as it is my attitude about what has happened in my life. I can choose to live in fear and resentment or I can choose to live in understanding, acceptance and love. The choice is mine. It is my free will to choose.

About the Book
When author Ali McAuley returned home after a twenty-one-day hiking trip in Nepal, she came to an important and life-changing realization. Her marriage to her husband, Macka, was over. During her trip, she got in touch with feelings and passions she had either forgotten about or had never experienced. She was free to discover who she was. In Ali’s Story, McAuley shares what happened after she moved out of her home, including the suicide of her estranged husband, Macka. She tells how this pivotal event affected not only her but her three teen-aged boys. The emotional baggage of Macka’s death prompted McAuley to reassess her life, and she made some important decisions and next steps. In this memoir, she narrates her personal journey, her spiritual awakening, and how she finally came to terms with her relationships with others, especially Macka, and his death. McAuley offers a look at how the turbulence and power of the rough sea guided her home and how she attained peace within her heart.
About the Author
Ali McAuley worked as a registered nurse in adolescent and child mental health and has taken courses in Reiki, Pranic healing, kinesiology, and life line counseling. She lives in the Byron Bay area and has three grown sons.
