The Gift

You might ask yourself “why have I written this book”! Well, I hope that someone, one day, will read it and realise that even though living with Kidney Failure (aka Renal Failure) has a lot of challenges you can still have a great life. Having the ability to live with any type of chronic illness comes down to support from your family, friends and a bit of stubbornness on your own part. The reason I say stubbornness is because it is up to you, at the end of the day, to make the decision to make the best of your life no-one can force you to enjoy yourself. I have found that being able to develop a positive attitude in your own life using positive emotions or focusing on the good times is also very important. After being diagnosed with Kidney Failure I discovered your life can be as varied and exciting as you want. I’ve also discovered that the key things are to stay positive and keep the focus on enjoying your life as much as you can. Given the circumstances that are laid out before you, with Kidney Failure or any other chronic illness, you may think that it is a hell of challenge and that you can’t do it. My hope is that this book will give you an insight on my life, what I have been through, what I have and haven't achieved to help you understand that no matter what happens you can still have a great life with a chronic condition, and in my case Kidney Failure. The hardest things to do is keeping focused on what you want and staying positive! One of the first things you will find out after being diagnosed with Kidney Failure, as with most other chronic illnesses, there are several treatment options that you and your consultant are able to consider, especially if you are diagnosed early enough. One of the first major challenges that you will be faced with, after being diagnosed with Kidney Failure, will be: What will my treatment be?
