About the Book

Author Jimali McKinnon knows what it’s like to have sleepless nights. Many of the poems included in this book were written during such nights. This selection of poems reflects McKinnon’s wide range of interests and her journey with a debilitating illness. The poems range from the humorous to the serious, in a wide variety of poetic styles on diverse subjects—from stays in hospital, home, and country, cockatoos, and gum trees. A chapter describing a sad love story is told in both humorous and serious verse.

About the Author
Jimali McKinnon was born in Sydney, Australia, of Aboriginal descent. She earned a BEc and MBA and worked in the finance/investment industry. Systemic lupus erythematosus and associated health problems led to her retirement at age fifty-six. She lives in an aged-care facility. She still sews her own clothes and maintains an interest in a wide range of subjects, especially writing poetry that reflects her sense of humour. She also enjoys being a mother and grandmother.
