About the Author

KELVIN VAWTER

Mr. Vawter is an educator and a foster parent in Richmond, Canada. He has been working with at risk children and youth in many capacities for almost forty years. This story grew from his experiences helping children to access resources and services over the years, as well as his experience is helping the illustrator to sort out a particular incident that she encountered in her life when she was a nine year old girl.

It is the author’s hope that this book and the accompanying illustrations may provide some information and inspiration to young people facing challenges and to those adults seeking to guide and mentor them.

ANNITA TRAN

Ms. Tran, having recently graduated from high school and presently attending college, provided inspiration for the writing of this story. An experience she encountered as a nine year old and which she shared with the writer at that time, became the background for the story. Although not autobiographical in nature, it was nevertheless a story which provoked an interest and passion in a youngster who felt motivated to provide the illustrations for this book and that is what she did. As Annita moves toward her career goal of becoming a chef, she continues to pursue her interest in art.

The author is deeply appreciative of Annita’s passion and the talent and eff ort she put into the completion of this project.
