THE PEARL NECKLACE
A gift is placed On the palms of my open hands I gaze upon its beauty Cooing at the velvety touch As I run my fingers along each pearl
Clasping the necklace around my neck Thoughts linger on the small creatures Whose creations are so exquisite and perfect On closer examination and to my surprise The pearls are not perfect To think that a grain of sand (an irritant) In an oyster’s shell Could create such magnificence Is a miracle in itself When strung together These imperfections are of no significance Only beauty is perceived When looking at a person’s lifespan Imagine each pearl Representing a year of our existence On an invisible string of time Gather all the years into a circle of life The irritations and imperfections Only enhances What it means to be human The flaws are what make us unique and interesting When we place ourselves in the center of Light and Love Our compassionate nature shines through Allowing us to see and be The true magnificence in ourselves And each other…
