Ferris and Laura woke up at the same time and were famished. They decided to go to the Crossroads American Kitchen and Bar for the breakfast buffet. They both had mimosas with their meal to relax them and ate a big breakfast in case they were so occupied with the memorial that they forgot lunch.
After they ate, they hailed a cab to take them to the memorial. They rode in silence. It was a beautiful sunny day. Ferris and Laura held hands, and once in a while they caught each other’s eyes, knowing what they were about to see and experience. There was a hint of dampness in Ferris’s eyes with the anticipation, and Laura understood with all her heart how hard this must be for him.
The National September 11 Memorial had opened on the tenth anniversary of the attacks. Two pools sat in the same spaces where the Twin Towers had stood. Huge waterfalls flowed into the pools surrounded by the names of the 2,977 victims engraved in bronze. Two of those names were Elise and Erin Lockman.
As the cab approached the memorial, Ferris’s heart pounded out of his chest, and he started shaking.
Laura took his hand and steadied it with both of hers. “It’ll be okay, Ferris. I’m right here and will be with you always.”

About the Book
In the heart of Napa Valley, California, there is a bed-and-breakfast and winery called The Golden Leaf. The Beemers, Robert and Laura, own and run it. They have a daughter, Chelsea, and two Great Danes.
Robert suffers a heart attack and crosses over, and Laura is left to run the bed-and-breakfast. A man comes to stay for a few days at the inn, and his name is Ferris Lockman. Upon meeting each other, Laura and Ferris feel a strong attraction. Ferris, however, is a Navy SEAL and has one last tour of duty in Afghanistan before retiring.
After his tour of duty is over, he comes back to the inn, and he and Laura fall deeply in love and get married. Ferris suffers with PTSD because of losing his first wife and son in the 9/11 towers attack and his tours of duty in the Middle East.
This is a tender love story that shows the courage and strength soldiers have in protecting our country. Too often we forget how they gave their lives or pieces of their lives to keep us safe.

About the Author
Linda Henderson has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all her life. She and her late husband Chuck performed in theater for over forty years, along with raising their two children.
Linda has done extensive traveling and loves the different cultures. She also gives Reiki (healing) treatments for seniors in Half Moon Bay.
Ideas for stories come to her and develop in her mind, and after a lot of editing, the book is ready to publish. She loves to write and looks forward to the finished product of her creation.
