“Gender fluidity” has become a modern buzzword. Although the term is not used extensively in this book it seems to convey the same as the message as this book: each of us has a masculine and feminine side that we are able to draw upon and utilize at will. When we do it helps us to stand in our power – which is a creative, loving power – and liberates us to reach our own unique potential and bring our gifts to the world. This is good for us and for everyone and everything around us.
Inner balance is available to us but to benefit from it we must choose it. We need to befriend it and find comfort with the idea that we have a masculine and feminine side. Then we can take steps to integrate both sides, develop a relationship with each and bring them into a state of harmony. This book will show you how with the aid of my unique Journey-to-Balance Model and seven-step process to balance.
Learning to cultivate inner balance – and harness it in your very being – enables you to be in the flow of your life and thrive. This is what I call the Law of Balance. I believe it is a law of nature just like gravity.
The reasons for the connection between inner balance and thriving are several and are addressed in this book. However, simply put, it works because you are in harmony with yourself, with nature and the universe. You are no longer working against yourself with an internal tug of war going on between your head and heart. You are fully aligned with yourself and this is when you come into your true power.
Much like the Law of Attraction which was unveiled and popularized in The Secret by Rhonda Byrne (1) and in Ask and It Is Given by Esther and Jerry Hicks (2), I believe it is time for the Law of Balance to be brought into the mainstream.
These two laws work closely together. Cultivating inner balance draws people, circumstances and events into your life that reflect your point of attraction. This is an expression of the Law of Attraction. Your inner harmony will reflect outwardly as you being in the flow of your life and thriving. Your relationships and almost every aspect of your life will be positively affected as well.
What about contrast and difference? Where does that fit in?
The Law of Balance as I see it states that you can explore contrast by immersing yourself for a time in either masculine or feminine energy – but if you want to thrive, you must return to center. That is your “home base”. This applies whether you are male or female and whether you are starting a business, writing a book, having a baby or moving to a new city.
While the concept of inner balance may be simple, carrying it out is not always easy.
One of the greatest obstacles to inner balance is social conditioning. The “gender binary” is the idea that depending on your biological sex you should either embody and express your masculine or feminine side, but not both. This is the status quo and it calls on us to be gender conforming. This message is reinforced by the media, religion and culture. It plays out in homes, families, relationships, schools, religious institutions, business, government, politics and in just about every echelon of society.
So not surprisingly, for some, the idea that we each have a masculine and feminine side is either new or is not new but is still not a comfortable one. It calls upon us to step into new territory. As we all know, change can be scary. Yet, in these times there is arguably a great need to restore balance in the world. It has to start with us. We might as well learn how to do it.
That is why this book was written. It explores what it means to be balanced and how it will help you, your loved ones and the world. It also explores what inner balance is not. This book is intended to be written with compassion and insight while also being a practical guide with many examples and easy steps to follow.
Perhaps you are curious about what it means to balance the inner masculine and feminine? Or perhaps you are keen to discover healthier expressions of what it means to be a man or a woman in the 21st century.
Alternatively, if you have grappled with any of the following, then this book is also for you:
• Feeling habitually overworked, tired and unbalanced
• Relationship issues
• Living in your head
• Being authentic
• Trying to be everything to everyone
• Being assertive about your needs
• The state of the world today
• Making a positive difference doing what you love
On the surface these issues may seem utterly different. Yet every one of them can be traced to an internal imbalance; either too much masculine energy unbalanced by the feminine, or the other way round.
This book explores this cause-effect connection and provides a unique approach to resolving these issues - not at the level of symptoms but at their source. This is a powerful way to create positive results. Even a slight change at the source has a positive ripple effect.

Chapter 1: The Treehouse
As a child I would have preferred being a boy.
So much easier and more comfortable, I thought. The whole world geared up for you.
This is how I felt… until I discovered two things.
One - what feminine energy really is. Two – Being in a particular body is not the problem. I could thrive in my own right and have the best of both worlds - if I chose. Anyone can. There is just one requirement: balancing the inner masculine and feminine.
