CHAPTER 1
The Sitting Practice of Meditation
In Humble Treedom live 2 cats who are master yogis. Each morning they rise in silence before the sun comes up, and prepare a magical cup of offering. They sit next to the window to watch the Light breathe life in the sky as it gradually touches the mountain peaks, the tall buildings, tree-tops, then the streets below and all they can see. They hear the sound of Light softly purring through the universe and they sniff their surroundings with their powerful nostrils, acquainting themselves with the newness of everything that begins again and again for the very first time forever.
This routine and ordinary practice of Sitting , although the same each morning becomes different in each practice. Those who Sit and meditate listened to the call within themselves and actually carried out the need to Sit and quiet their minds in order to savor their existence. This savoring sweetens them immensely, it is a sweetening they cannot resist. After this pleasant practice, they find it elevates their your own existence to become extraordinary beings.
The cats sniff the morning sounds, listen to the smell of all life they see and cannot see, all that moves and moves not. The quiet mornings of Sitting in the stillness before the sun rises allows them the connection to the miraculous force of this universe and other universes beyond this one. They listen for and they feel their swirling union with the OM of beyond the beyond. It fills them with a comfort so powerful, and a knowing of an unwavering tie to being eternally well-loved.
Soon their human companion awakens and joins them by the window with a cup of magical offering. And she too takes her seat and savors the morning freshness and newness and slowly beholds a world that has never been before. This silence enfolds her like a warm cloud of cottoness which brings on a profound peace and wondrous calm from knowing she is especially deeply loved. These three sit by windows every dawn of beginnings, before the strong sound of light beats against them and renew themselves. They reactivate their newness each daybreak, a daybreak that has never been before.
Sitting gives her an armor of radiance to face the forces of past minds, the bewitching of words, the multitude of opinionated ways that will pull and push their ways upon her. After this Sitting practice, very little can shake her formidable power, which comes from acknowledging her worthiness. Knowing the power of the love that watches over her, guides her and protects her, she becomes master of herself, creator of her own perception. The love that created the universe permeates through her strongly and she recognizes it in all of creation. She becomes luminous and beholds everything with loving eyes. She revitalizes herself through this practice which allows her to remember she is part of the One in All and the All that is One. Smiling knowingly that all is right with the world and that everything is as it should be, she nods and begins to glow from that sparkle that starts from within and now spreads outwards until she is a brilliant glowing being. Her day now begins as a super human, one who can Sit and one who Sits in silence to connect to her greater self.
This is an ancient practice that humans have done since the beginning of time, everywhere. This is one of the most natural human things to do, to Sit and be called to spirit without interruption. Some still do this today. It is a preparation to elevate ourselves to that more super-human part of ourselves. It brings out the grandness in our everyday lives, the luxuriousness in small behaviors we take for granted. It celebrates and praises our abilities to walk, talk, move, touch, give and accept with gentleness. It makes us illustrious and striking beings. No other activity or tangible product can make us feel this way for this long that we ourselves can control. Whenever we find something outside of ourselves that makes us feel this high, it eventually controls us and we become lost, and become separated from home.
