“I should have known you had a buck in you,” groaned Cath. “Not my specialty!” With the mare in tow, she crawled over to a patch of snow, hoping to numb her throbbing nose. Still reeling from the effects of concussion, Cath knew better than to get back on. With snow in her pockets to reduce the swelling and staunch the bleeding, she took a short route home, avoiding embarrassing encounters with the conference goers. At the barn she un-tacked the mare and went to the ranch house to clean up. Looking in the mirror, trying to scrub out the dirt, and discovering a white piece of bone jutting out from the bridge of her nose, she almost passed out again!

About the Author
Catherine Cote has been working with horses for fifty-three years as a jump rider, coach, trainer, judge, and rancher. She facilitated self-empowerment seminars for women, taught school, and raised three children. Her stories feature a variety of horses that impacted her life in different ways. Cath moved from British Columbia to southern Utah to marry a sheep rancher.
