Twas the night before the start of school and all throughout the town, there were busy people running about before they could lie down. There were kids picking outfits, to wear on their first day. There were butterflies in tummies that kept getting in the way. There were blankets tucked in, and one last book in bed. There were "goodnights" and "sleep tights", and kisses on the head There were classrooms all decked out with posters and books. There were nametags on cubbies with backpack and coat hooks. Whether rainy or sunny, the next morning would come… And the day would be filled with joyful surprises for everyone!

About the Author
As a mother of 3, a grandmother of 8, and a retired teacher who spent nearly 30 years teaching preschool, first grade, and second grade, Anne "Gigi" McCrory has seen her fair share of First Days of School. As a parent and a grandparent, she's managed the countless supply checklists, calmed the jitters, and answered the questions that always seem to crop up before children fall asleep: What should I wear? Who will play with me? What if I don’t know where to go? As a teacher, she also knows the months of detailed preparation, involving many dedicated, caring people behind the scenes, that it takes to get Ready For the First Day of School. She is hopeful that her readers are comforted by this story and have many GREAT First Days of School!!
