This patient presented to me as someone that I had known and worked with in many capacities. She expressed that she was suffering from “empath burnout” and was interested in using regression as a tool to understand some of the driving forces in her life. We reviewed her life journey and covered some areas of challenge. We also talked about the options of regression which may or may not include past life experiences.
Hypnosis induction was carried out in the usual manner. After deepening the trance, we had her imagine looking into a reflection in a pond. She affirmed by nodding her head that she had an awareness of her guiding spirit being present with her. The suggestion was made for her to open her heart and awareness to her spirit guide and to the universe and receive the love, knowledge, and guidance that would be best for her. My next suggestion was to go back in time to the memory that was important for her in finding her answers. I suggested that this memory could be either in this life or in a previous life. After a short period of time (in hypnosis, this is often 5 to 15 seconds) she nodded her head when she got to that memory to let me know that she was there. I asked her if this memory was in this lifetime, and she shook her head to say no. My next question asked if this memory was from a previous lifetime. Again, she shook her head no. This was perplexing for me and so I continued to ask several more questions. I was surprised that she did not go back to a traumatic episode in this childhood as my expected source of her concern. Instead, she described going back to “the cusp of entering this life”. She was making a final decision as to whether this is the life that she would enter. She described being surrounded by bright lights. She described that there was one spirit beside her, who was almost directing her towards choosing this life, although she had no sense of objection to this suggestion. She was told by this spirit, “This family needs you”. She was able to acknowledge having a strong spirit herself but that she had neglected herself by giving so much to others that she had become drained. We then went on, still under hypnosis, to discuss the need for her to look after herself first by treating her own spirit with love, compassion, respect, truth and without judgment. We were able to lead her to an understanding that she is unable to give to others if she does not look after herself first. There seemed to be a knowing that this “breakdown” was created by her guardian spirit so that she would get the help that she needed to become more enlightened. She also remembered a few years prior, when she was going through a guided session with someone who asked her to identify her guardian spirit as they stepped out of the forest. The person she identified was me. I recalled that we had talked about that at the time, and I remember being amused at the thought. At that time when she initially shared this information with me, I would not have been ready for any kind of deep emotional spiritual reaction or guidance. During this stage of the hypnosis, there were tears dripping softly from her eyes. We made suggestions for her to be able to continue with her life journey including this new sense of awareness and the ability to love and nurture her own spirit so that she would have the strength and capacity to continue giving to others. In talking about this after the hypnosis had ended, she expressed that she had a strong sense that “I got what I needed”.
Insights
This single session impacted me on multiple levels. I had learned through my ongoing sessions with Brian, to accept the existence of the spiritual plane between lives. I had even begun to consider the possibility that each life journey was meant to give us opportunity to learn lessons that were important in our spiritual journey to enlightenment. I had not, however, considered the possibility that our spirit selves had a choice in which journey/which life we would select to reach that next level of understanding. Of interest, is that having had this experience with this person, I began to open my awareness to the possibility that in our spirit state, we have the option of choosing lives deliberately for the learning opportunities presented. I have since reached the understanding that there are times when, as spirits, we choose a life that we already know will be difficult for different reasons. One reason is that those difficulties provide opportunities for learning and growth. A second reason that I have come to understand is that we sometimes choose the challenging life, or a challenging life is presented to us as an option, and we agree because of the strength or resilience that we are able to contribute to this life situation and the people who are part of our shared journey. Later, you will read about Maddy whose current life traumatic emotions were resolved when we were able to bring this possible interpretation to her awareness. It seems as if each patient comes to me for healing, but in addition to that healing, there is a lesson for my learning. It has become a comfortable thought that each patient presents at a certain time or in a certain order because those are the lessons that I am meant to learn in my own journey towards intuitive healing.
