About the Book
Vickie McEntire’s Little Bird & Myrtle Turtle is an inspiring story of encouragement and persistence for young children. It expresses how Little Bird overcomes adversity with the help of an unlikely rescuer, Myrtle Turtle. In turn, Myrtle Turtle is blessed by watching Little Bird learn to spread his wings. It is beautifully illustrated by Christina Vergona with elements of classic literature. I can see this story being shared not only with children, but graduates and parents as a testament to the relationships, sometimes unlikely, necessary for success. —Rachel Lamar, M.Ed., Media Specialist This beautifully illustrated book is crafted with precision to allow the deeper message to come through in a thoughtful way, but never preachy or simplistic. You come away from this book with many important messages that children of all ages would understand and apply to their lives. —Lisa M. Russell, MAPW, English instructor and author of Lost Towns of North Georgia
About the Author
Vickie has been telling stories since she was a child. She's from a small town in Northwest Georgia and has always dreamed of being a writer. She finally realized she was a writer and started sharing her storytelling with others. She has edited a biography written by a native survivor of the Korean War, and recently published a short story, entitled Broken Shells are Beautiful, in the online publication, Lady Literary Magazine. She is a member of Calhoun Area Writers and the Association of Writers & Writing Programs. She publishes stories about her family ancestors to a Facebook page called the Stansell Family History, and has a blog called A Literate Life, which can be found at aliteratelife.blogspot.com. When she is not reading and writing, she loves planting, pruning and picking produce from her fruit and vegetable gardens. She loves her grown children, and will drop whatever she's doing to spend time with either of her two sons or her daughter.
