Oh Dream
And so it was. Oralee was not like other Koi. She was bold and daring, attempting tricks that other Koi never imagined. She’d sprint countless times each day through the small pond at very high speed. Each time, she moved faster than before it seemed.
Dropping her fins at the perfect moment, and giving one final thrust, she tried to leap out of the water. She dreamed of flight. Her long flowing fins felt like wings. Surely she was meant to fly, if only for a moment.
Alas, Oralee had not leaped out of the water to fly. She only had dreams. She thought, "If only I had more room to swim and build my speed. I could surely fly if I swam fast enough." She believed in her dream with all her heart.
Oralee was born just before the spring, in early March. Over the course of the spring and summer months, she grew so fast and so large. In fact, she was bigger and stronger than the other Butterfly Koi of her age group.
A lean diet and exercise were Oralee’s proud habits. And because Koi live for many years, she had great hope of reaching the Toyohira River one fine day.
"In the river," she thought, "I could swim for miles without stopping and no walls to contain me like here in the pond." This thought excited Oralee. She truly felt the possibility of her dream.
A Vision
Oralee’s dreams made her practice harder and more often. She protected her dream. And when the other Koi children laughed at her, she practiced even harder.

Gerald WoodSON is an author who is attached to the dream of self-determination. After earning an MS in Economics and years of employment with Coca-Cola, Kodak and DISH Network, he turned his home into his office (in Charlotte, North Carolina) and relocated his online startup, OYea 2 Enterprises, LLC, from his hometown in Richmond, VA .
