Most people at some point, start to wonder about the meaning and purpose of their life. When this happens it is the beginning of the quest to find inner truth, wisdom and wellness. It is the reawakening of the spirit and is the point on your life journey when you are truly ready to harvest wellness of your mind, body and spirit.
Wellness means different things to different people and is informed by each individual’s life experiences, their attitude, their personal values and their core beliefs. Wellness encompasses mind, body and spirit, and is influenced by what is going on in your life at this moment in time. Wellness of the body is linked to physical health, wellness of the mind is influenced by your mental or emotional state and spiritual wellness is underpinned by your belief system and the extent to which you live in alignment with these beliefs.
If we broaden the concept further we recognise that whole person wellness is impacted by our physical and mental health, our relationships, our environment, our education, our occupation, our material wealth, our experience of stress, our social supports, the level of engagement we have with our community, our faith based or spiritual beliefs, and our ability to connect with our inner truth and to live by that truth. It is impossible therefore to talk about wellness without considering how all aspects of one’s life will impact on it.
A key factor in how you perceive wellness is the mindset you adopt as you journey through life. A person may be going through treatment for cancer but may feel well today because their pain is under control. Someone else may have lost a family member but feels well because they are grateful for the memorable times spent with the person. Someone else may have a stressful job or may be struggling financially but feels well today because they have taken steps toward changing jobs or improving their finances. Someone else may be faced with a major life event but feels okay, because they trust that the God of their understanding will guide them to make the right decision or choices. Wellness therefore is significantly influenced by your perspective on life and the attitude you choose to adopt.
The human mind and body when it is functioning according to its genius design is at ease. When the harmony of our mind, body or spirit is disturbed we move away from wellness and toward disease and illness. Dis-ease is the adversary of wellness so it is vital to strengthen your wellness foundation. Many people struggle to achieve balance in their lives because they are conflicted between their current lifestyle and what they instinctively know would be a better way of living. Regardless of the cause of this imbalance they struggle to make the changes that will move them toward increased life satisfaction and better wellness and health.
By choosing not to make life changes they suppress their inner truth, surrender their personal power and continue to maintain low levels of wellness. However when a person makes the decision to start living their life in accordance with their inner truth, they reclaim their personal power, honour their right to happiness and begin living in a meaningful way and with purpose. This marks the beginning of their personal wellness journey.
