The shroud of dead silence returns, covering the entire hillside, striking even the usually noisy insects into silence. The layers of fog seem to stand motionless in the moment. Then something begins to stir at the entrance to the small cluster of graves. Lucius Annaeus Magnus, one of the Roman soldiers posted to guard the body, awakens from an unusual sleep. He seems to be the only guard left. When the evening began, he was standing sentry with another member of the Roman guard and four members of Israel’s temple guard. Dumbfounded at first, he stumbles to his feet, staggers a few steps, and then collapses beside the entrance to the tomb. The soldier cannot decide if the ground is still spinning or it is just his head. Lucius has been drunk on wine many times, but his head has never felt like this before. As he focuses his attention on the opening to the now vacant tomb, he begins to realize there is something terribly wrong. He springs to his feet and runs into the unlit cave. He stands in the doorway waiting for his eyes to adjust to the dark. A single ray of light filters through the dense mist to illuminate the back wall of the tomb. As the room becomes visible, the young Roman guard’s worst fears are realized. The body is gone. His one and only duty on this mission was to make sure that no one tampered with the body. His commander had placed his hand on his shoulder, stared directly into his eyes, and told him not to make a mess of this duty. And now the body is gone. What is he going to do now?

About the Book
The author has crafted a riveting fictional account of one man’s struggle with the evil trapped within the burial cloth of Jesus. The story follows the journey of Lucius Maximus, a young Roman soldier. When assigned to guard the tomb of Christ, his life is suddenly changed forever after he touches the shoud of Jesus and is drawn deep into the underworld where evil resides.
About the Author
Reverend Dale Warrick is the senior pastor at the United Methodist Church of Doylestown, Ohio. He has been serving as a local pastor in the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist faith for eighteen years. Rev. Warrick was born and raised on a farm near Barnesville, Ohio. He has been very happily married to his wife, Rita, for thirty-six years. They have two daughters, Christine and Megan.
Rev. Warrick has long been curious about the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, a cloth thought to be the burial cloth of Jesus. While attending a seminar on the history of the Shroud of Turin in 1995, he learned the cloth was discovered by a French Knight Templar by the name of Geoffroy de Charny returning from the crusades in 1390, near Constantinople. Rev. Warrick began to speculate on how the burial cloth of Christ made the journey from a tomb outside Jerusalem to a city in Turkey. That afternoon he wrote the outline for the story that would ultimately become this book.
