Soul Reflections

Marilyn and I are fellow faith travelers in the same sacred community. She has been a passenger for quite a few decades on this blue bus we call Earth. She inspires me with her love for learning and child-like view of all things here. ________________________________________ When I gaze into the sky – there is no east or west. We have created this artifact of directions so that we can physically describe our world. When the sun comes up in the morning and sets at night, there is no clock. We invented this device so that we could regulate our schedules of rest and activity. When the days are followed by nights time and time again – there is no calendar. We fabricated the weeks and months so that we could mark the passing of time. Time and space are continuous, seamless – flowing across our grand Universe. So what is age? A number. I believe we concocted this notion because our temporal brains needed a compass to track our journey on the planet. I can imagine the very first persons to inhabit earth wanting to make sense of their new home – having to invent a language that had not existed. Amazing. We have even imposed a gauge on trees by counting rings to determine how long they’ve been alive. How long they’ve been alive… What if we asked “How have you lived?” instead of “How long have you lived?” What if instead of age, we agreed on appraising the experiences that have enlivened us? What would happen if we eliminated words like old, aged, elderly, ancient? Could we be creative when we describe our aliveness? How would we talk about those that arrived on the planet before we did such as our parents’ parents? I have lived with zeal. I have lived with joy. I have lived through my personal adversity. I have loved and both gained and lost. I am living in the moment. I am learning more every day. I am surrounded by love – family, friends, community. I am grateful for every step that has brought me here. I am thriving more and more with every breath I take. I am alive! Miracles. Abundance. Radiance. Inspiration. Laughter. Yet to be. Now. The measure of time is man-made. I am shaped by the Spirit of all life. I am God’s beloved child. I am beguiled by the magic of each new day. I am.
