Listening to Spirit
For a long time I’ve known (or felt) I would write a book. I certainly did not expect this would be it. Yet, looking back now, I see that Mary Magdalene has been pointing, nudging and calling me to the Divine Feminine.
Years ago, I started doing a guided writing meditation practice that I simply call Listening, short for Listening to Spirit. I do this as part of my morning practices, those rituals of connection and self-care that I find critical for my own balance and well-being.
As part of my meditation, I open a blank page in my journal or a document on my laptop. After quieting my mind, tuning in to myself and connecting to Spirit, I open up and ask questions about my life. I would feel a gentle shift and sense a response. This is how I was guided initially:
“We would like, if you are willing and able, to have you create a regular routine, if you will, of morning time we call “Listening”. Come to this machine (my computer) in the mornings as you now have a habit of doing. Begin your day with whatever time you have to sit and listen, typing as you go, like now. But this regular listening will be a chance to practice translating what you hear. By taking the time to tune in to us regularly, you will develop an ear, if you will, for what we are trying to convey. The refinement will get more subtle and the message will get more advanced, though simplicity is the key here, we all agree.”
Through time I developed an attuned ear and body-sense for discerning what guidance was coming to me – choosing the exquisitely right phrases – versus what I “wanted” to hear. I’ve used this process when I face “big” issues like my soul purpose or career questions. I also use it for smaller decisions, to determine if they are soul-congruent and purposeful, like travel logistics, daily work flow, relationship conundrums or business planning. When I do, I find my daily angst is soothed and my day flows with more ease, grace, joy and synchronicity. I see it as practical mysticism for everyday life.
Whispers from Divine She
Fast forward to 2006. I had a good life as an art therapist, but something was amiss. I sensed that there were big shifts ahead, a richer destiny that I was here to serve. Woven into my Listening meditations was guidance about moving, new jobs, marriage and other changes. I started getting glimmers about Mary Magdalene and the awakening of the Divine Feminine in messages like this,
“We notice that the theme you are awakening in yourself you can do so with others. Use the tools you have at your access for connecting with guides and inner wisdom – and share these with others. Awaken the feminine divine, listening deeply from the heart of your soul to re-member your soul purpose, divine destiny.
The Divine She, Goddess, is with you and wants to speak through you. She says, “The time is ripe. It is time we awaken the power that is inherent in the beauty and soul of the feminine. For the Divine in female comes from silence as well as speaking, from listening to and living from a deep inner place that honors all life. This is not only for the women to do, though the women hold this and must lead. Enjoy your blessings in this year of the Goddess.”
Ripening of Purpose
During autumn of 2009, the time, temperature and conditions were ripe. I refined my ability to connect with a trusted source of wisdom and I opened up the dialogue with Spirit to know my purpose more clearly. Mary Magdalene made her presence known in my meditations, along with her desire to share her wisdom about reclaiming the Sacred Feminine at this time on the planet. She encouraged me to write her perspective – her story, tools and practices – and then share this new body of work with other women. Her “divine downloads” to me – many, many pages of journaling – ultimately became this book.
On a weekly basis, I communed with Mary Magdalene, a woman of great mystery and misunderstanding, as well as wisdom and substance. I would simply open my connection via prayer and meditation (a.k.a. Listening), hear her voice and write. She gently instructed me (more than once) to “show up, listen and type”, to receive her message without worrying about what to do with it. She was always encouraging and kind.
In the pages that follow, I share my discoveries about Mary Magdalene, a brilliant being of light and love with a conflicted “herstory”. She discloses aspects of her life not told before. More importantly, I reveal Magdalene’s “divine downloads” about the awakening of Feminine Soul, along with skills and activities to put her insights and ideas into use in your everyday life. I found her message to be profound, passionate and intensely relevant to the lives of women today.
Magdalene Speaks
“For women, to reclaim the divine feminine is to reveal the sacred within. A woman with a revived inner feminine has a sense of herself as whole and holy. She is held by God, and knows that she is part of and connected to this sacredness, that she is sacred. Which is why awakening the feminine soul is such deep and important work. Women are now ready to reveal their true divinity to themselves and to the world. And the world is ready. The world needs all the self-expressed, inspired, confident, love-filled women who are ready to live as force to be reckoned with. Not an angry, aggressive force, but a strong, fierce, vibrant force of love, that is a gentle, warm breeze at the end of a long, hot summer day. The world needs this love and the cleansing force it implies. Prepare yourself, this wind is gathering power and coming your way.”
