My Love Affair with Cuba

Let me tell you about a place so near, yet so different from what we in Canada are used to. It is rich in history, some very old, and some recent. The architecture is stunning and reminiscent of a far- away European city. The place I am referring to is the island of Cuba. It’s easy to see why, when Christopher Columbus first laid eyes on Cuba he wrote, “Never have human eyes beheld anything so beautiful.” Cuba has some of the most beautiful beaches, along with breathtakingly scenic countryside. The people love to celebrate life. They are friendly, have great respect for their fellow man, love and adore their children, and motherhood is almost sainted. It is the only place I know of where women are truly treated as equals. Life can be a struggle in varying degrees for many, but not unbearable. Some food is difficult to obtain, but no one is starving. Education is paid right through university and health care, one of the best in the world, is free. The arts flourish and the music will make your heart soar.
